Every time I go out of town now, it is mostly a culinary exploration (well, and to see family!). I find popular instagrammers in the area, search Yelp, read blogs, Pinterest, etc., until I find cool places I want to explore and eat at. Basically, my life seems to revolve around mostly food. Is this a bad thing?
Over Christmas break I was able to check out some new places (and eat at old favorites) while in Austin, TX (and surrounding area!). Here are nine of my favorites:
Elizabeth St. Cafe // basically the cutest little boulangerie ever. It is a French-Vietnamese infusion with outdoor seating and marble everything!!
Tacodeli // really good tacos. Although a bit pricey (average $4 per taco, and they aren't that big), they were very tasty and the chips & queso was amazing. Try the breakfast tacos too!
Seventh Flag Coffee // good coffee, cute location. I saw lots of good instagram opportunities (i.e. natural light)!
Kreuz Market // THE BEST BBQ EVER. Well, maybe not the best, but it's my personal favorite and I've been going there since I was a tyke. It's about an hour drive from Austin!
Gourdough's // huge doughnuts! They come topped with a bunch of different flavors, including strawberries, oreos, chocolate, and bacon. I went to the food truck but I think they have a restaurant as well.
Magnolia Cafe // love this place for breakfast/brunch. They have breakfast tacos, bagels, pancakes, omelettes, and more. Everything is fresh and the prices are good, but expect a wait on the weekends.
Gloria's // great frozen margaritas!! They also have amazing fajitas, chips & queso, and the bean dip that comes with the chips & salsa is just plain addicting. I ate here three separate times while I was home and had good experiences each time!
Guero's Taco Bar // Located right in the middle of South Congress, this is my go-to. My parent's have been coming here since they went to UT in the 80s, and it hasn't changed much (in a good way!). Good margaritas, pork tacos, and a salsa bar.
Blind Pig Pub // a dive bar, and I love the outdoor patio! Located right on Sixth Street so you have a view of EVERYTHING.
