I started making these biscuits when we first moved to New York one year ago. We were craving all things southern and comforting and I made these and we ate them all and danced with joy in the kitchen. Now they make a regular appearance at our weekend breakfasts. These were absolutely perfect during the big "blizzard" that resulted in a snow day earlier this week. Why should you bake these homemade biscuits this weekend? They are super easy to make, delicious, flaky, buttery...and perfect with jam and coffee on a cold morning.

Five-Ingredient Biscuits:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 5 tbsp. butter
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions: In a medium bowl stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Use a pastry cutter (or two knives) to cut butter into mixture until it resembles course crumbs. Now the fun part! Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the milk all at once, and use a fork to pull the flour mixture into the center, making a sticky dough. Next, knead dough gently on a floured surface for a few seconds. Using a rolling pin, roll dough out to 1/2 inch thickness. Then cut out the biscuits with a  2 inch cookie cutter. Place on baking sheet and bake in 475 degree oven for about 10 - 15 minutes. Afterwards, brush with a little butter on top if desired.

Enjoy!
